Willimann/Arai (Nina Willimann /CH und Mayumi Arai/JP) arbeiten seit 2015 gemeinsam an verschiedenen ortsspezifischen, forschungs- und prozessbasierten Projekten zwischen Europa und Asien. In Zusammenarbeit mit Besucher:innen, lokalen Gemeinschaften und Expert:innen erschaffen sie Arrangements des Dazwischen sowie polyphone Erzählformen. In ihrer Langzeitforschung The gift exercise untersuchen Willimann/Arai Gastfreundschaft als soziale Technik. In ihren jüngsten Arbeiten prüfen sie, inwieweit sich Konzepte der Gastfreundschaft auf Beziehungen und Verflechtungen zwischen verschiedenen Spezies übertragen lassen.
Während WHAT’S COOKING? werden Willimann/Arai ihre Färbeexperimente mit der Gelben Flechte (Xanthoria parietina) fortsetzen. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Flechtenarten profitiert die Gelbe Flechte von der «Düngung aus der Luft», die durch hohe Stickstoffbelastung verursacht wird. Sie hat sich daher besonders in Regionen mit intensiver Landwirtschaft oder starkem Verkehr verbreitet.

Willimann/Arai (Nina Willimann (CH) and Mayumi Arai(JP)) have been working together since 2015 in various site-specific, research- and process-based projects between Europe and Asia. In collaboration with visitors, local communities and experts, they create arrangements of the in-between and polyphonic forms of narration. In their long-term research The gift exercise, Willimann/Arai investigate hospitality as a social technique. In their recent works, they examine to what extent concepts of hospitality can be applied to interspecies relationships and entanglements.
During «What’s cooking?», Willimann/Arai will continue dyeing experiments with the yellow lichen (Xanthoria parietina). Unlike other lichen species, the yellow lichen benefits from «fertilization from the air» caused by high nitrogen pollution and has therefore spread particularly in regions with intensive agriculture or heavy traffic.
